The Carina Good Times : a Le Rosey Service Learning project

Eager to keep Service Learning going in spite of the challenges imposed by the pandemic, the idea of a Carina Journal was born to support local organisation, Carina Care Home for the Elderly, with which Le Rosey has long-established links. Students regularly visit the home to perform concerts or to talk with them as part of their CAS projects for IB and with access limited this term, Roseans were eager to find a way to continue their contribution to the residents.

Conceived by Roseans as a way to support the residents of Carina, the ‘Carina Good Times’ journal contains articles written by our students from across the ages (Juniors-Class 1) and was designed and put together by a small dedicated team. Contributions came from both students learning at distance and those who have been able to join us on campus. The journal also includes QR codes that link to recorded performances, a cooking demonstration and music compositions, all which have taken place during this term at Le Rosey. To go with the journal, each resident received a bookmark, handmade by our Juniors using pressed flowers. This project offered a truly special gift during difficult times that sought to raise the spirits of the elderly people, many of whom had been isolating for several months.
