From Schönried to Gstaad on Foot

Le Rosey is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the arrival of les jeunes filles when Le Rosey finally became co-ed – the first boarding school in Switzerland to do so and one of the first boys’ boarding schools in the world to take such a step.  To mark so important a stage in Rosey’s history, the winter term finished with a symbolic walk linking our two campuses when 400 Roséens and their teachers made their way down from Schönried to Gstaad in a long snaking line and in excellent spirits, just a day before International Women’s Day.

Before the walk started, however, all saw the burning of the winter “guy” or bonhomme hiver. Not a symbolic attack on male power but a venerable Swiss tradition that forecasts snowfall for the next winter. The omens are good: the effigy burnt slowly meaning that we can expect heavy snow in 2019!
