Bookfête: In the Juniors

Junior Roseans celebrated Bookfête with their own special programme, setting the tone for the day’s festivities as students and teachers dressed up in an array of original costumes inspired by their favourite literary characters. The morning opened with author Katelyn Aronson delivering a presentation on the complex journey of “How a Book is Made”, as well as sharing her latest book, Clovis Keep His Cool (the story of a tempestuous china-shop-owning bull), to reflect the day’s theme of mental health. Philippine de Gréa, French children’s author, led an interactive session on her novel Marguerite et Madame de Staël, which the francophone students had been studying; Class 6 students enjoyed a theatrical storytelling workshop with her later in the afternoon. Local author Julien Loertscher also charmed the younger students by reading from his latest book and the day ended with a story-telling session in the Library by Kenyan actor and broadcaster John Sibi-Okumu, who entranced everyone with his re-telling of African myths. If that wasn’t enough to inspire Le Rosey’s budding authors, the Juniors also participated in a range of workshops throughout the day, including bookmark making, illustrating mythical characters and dramatic interpretations of famous stories, as well as a visit from two former Juniors, now in Class 2, who hosted a workshop on Le Petit Prince and the whole school’s precious shared moment of silent reading.
