14 Jun Educating tomorrow, today: Juuling
A near-global phenomenon, JUUL is a new marketing poison targeting adolescents in the form of an electronic cigarette with a hi-tech look and almost playful operation with small refills of different flavours. From California to Switzerland, this latest nicotine-based product is a hit in all the playgrounds and no doubt, it will soon conquer the market in Asia.
“Most teenagers are unaware of the high nicotine concentration – and the real impact of this highly addictive product.”
Most teenagers are unaware of the high nicotine concentration – higher than cigarettes – and the real impact of this highly addictive product. In the short term it has a negative effect on concentration, sleep and, by stimulating endorphin neurotransmitters, it makes its users less and less sensitive to everyday pleasures. The longer term effects of nicotine are already widely know, including its carcinogenic properties.
At Rosey, after an information campaign and numerous discussions with all teachers and directors, a general amnesty gave Roséens who were willing to admit their own use of the device a chance to break this new harmful habit without punishment. This approach was a great success! It will be followed by scientific conferences on the effects of nicotine and the implementation of regular detection tests; in the outcome of a positive test result, sanctions will be implemented and support given to stop smoking.
