OFFRES D'EMLOI / EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Biology Teacher (to IB) from September 2012

For September 2012 we have a full-time post available in our Science Department for a teacher of Biology (ideally up to and including IB at Higher and/or Standard level). The ability to offer another science subject, such as Chemistry, Environmental Systems in Society, Sports Science or middle school Science, is essential.

Background Information
The Science department at Le Rosey consists of seven English-speaking and three French-speaking teachers. They prepare an international student body for IB diploma exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies. In the "pre-Bac" years preceding the IB programme, students follow courses in two or three of the main science subjects. The syllabuses of these are the school's own but are based on those of the IGCSE. Younger students have general science classes similar to those of the UK National Curriculum.

A teacher at Le Rosey must be willing and able to teach native speakers as well as groups from mixed linguistic backgrounds. There are approximately 60 different nationalities amongst the pupils at Le Rosey and many do not have English as their mother tongue. The successful candidates should be able to offer a flexibility of approach and a willingness to understand the problems of non-native speakers of English. Knowledge of French would be an asset, and a teacher able to teach in French as well as English would be at a considerable advantage – although this is not a requirement.

Applicants should note that the post is residential and that the successful applicant will be expected to play an active role in boarding life.

Qualities and Qualifications
The diversity of the student body and of the teaching as well as the nature of boarding school life means that the teacher appointed must be adaptable and energetic. We are looking for fully qualified teachers (at least a first degree in science from an English-speaking university as well as a teaching qualification), ideally with:
• international experience, or an interest in international education
• experience of IB Higher level Biology or equivalent
• experience of or a commitment to boarding

Candidates with the appropriate experience, qualifications and background may be eligible to apply for the post of Biology

Coordinator (reporting to the Head of Science), which qualifies them for a supplementary allowance paid termly.
