A RICH HISTORY...

Four successive generations of Directors – who have always been Le Rosey’s owners – have never ceased to improve a unique institution and its dedication to international education.

Former students have built a powerful and effective alumni association which includes figures from all walks of life, some of whom have played a significant role in the history of the twentieth century.

Yet, despite its loyalty to its past, to discipline and to educational traditions, Le Rosey has always been imaginative and avant-garde – particularly in language teaching, bilingualism and biculturalism, and personal development through the incorporation of a sports and arts programme into daily life, as well as through stimulating and motivating students through the granting of privileges.

1880
Le Rosey was founded in 1880. The site of its campus was chosen by a lover of nature, history and the countryside: Paul Carnal.

1911
Henri Carnal, the son of the founder, takes over. In 1917, Le Rosey moves up to Gstaad for the winter for the first time.

1947
A third generation of directors assumes control of Le Rosey: Louis Johannot and Helen Schaub. In 1967, Le Rosey, until then exclusively a boys’ school, opens a girls’ campus.

Directors and owners since 1980, Anne and Philippe Gudin de la Sablonnière, are the fourth generation of directors since the founding of the school.
