The first key is the development of infrastructures, of time and human resources dedicated to activities linked to arts and emotional intelligence. |

The practice of the Arts develops both a child's emotional intelligence and creativity, qualities which are essential to a growing number of professions, from design to showbiz, the hospitality industry to the art market, from architecture to IT…
An education in the Arts favours Roseans’ psychological balance, creative imagination and their ability to relate to surroundings with the help of the five senses.

The second key is the wall-less classroom and the dismantling of the barriers between academic disciplines. |

The use of databases and information relies on IT but also on the proximity of those working in ‘Learning Centres’ built to bring together the energies of the school, from the lively atmosphere of the cafeteria to the quiet and studious area of the library, passing through open spaces where adults and children will mingle, and doing away with staffrooms and other closed meeting areas.
To encourage young people away from a mindset encased in a traditional academic ‘straitjacket’, so as to help them become decision makers and move out of their comfort zones into the realm of achievement, get them out of the classroom, increase the amount of physically demanding expeditions and outings carefully organized around multi-disciplinary themes.
The weekly speakers’ programme of talks and debates with guests invited from all horizons opens windows on the world, favouring blending of ideas and building personal convictions.
Communication media and the constant call of the virtual world have made concentration in class a problem; we respond to this by developing techniques which favour personal reflection, concentration and coaching.
We use new architecture to create multifunctional classroom spaces equipped with Smartboards, personal computers, iPads, etc so as to diversify teaching methods and adapt communication to the tools used by young people outside the classroom.
Motivation and a concrete vision of a future after school are nourished by summer work experience in the professional world where sponsorship is provided and experience monitored. Further development of the AIAR (Association Internationale des Anciens Roséens) ‘Active Summer’ programme using links with parents and the influential AIAR, moreover, constitutes an important element in the CV of a young undergraduate.
Travel and humanitarian activities linked to Rosey projects promote awareness of the real world in those young people who live privileged lives in a protected environment. |

The third key is that of taking responsibility in a world where rights and duties are clearly defined. |

Our obsession with safety allied to electronic surveillance has established a quasi-permanent safety control net around the young. The school has a duty to counterbalance these intrusions by increasing opportunities for taking responsibility and autonomy.
We often criticize the young for being too individualistic and for not showing respect for the community in which they live, yet these are foibles of our own society. We instill Roseans with our values through organizing an intense schedule on our campus, where dialogue with well-qualified adults is permanent and where community living is structured by Codes in which rights and duties are clearly defined and respected.
Activities which nurture leadership must be developed : theory and its on-the-ground practical application, expeditions, sports, clubs and committees. |

The fourth key is the development of each learner’s multiple intelligences and mastery of foreign languages. |

The balanced development of all the child’s talents is re-affirmed through our holistic approach to education. This requires infrastructures which we are improving ceaselessly and a philosophy which recognizes the importance of non-academic disciplines, particularly Arts and Sports.
One of the inter-national characteristics of a Rosey education (not to be confused with ‘international’ which often seems to read ‘American’) promotes the teaching of languages rather than imposing a monopoly of English and an Anglo-Saxon culture.
We teach a bilingual French-English programme, offer more than 15 other languages and endeavour to ensure that none of our students graduate without having mastered at least 3 languages. |

The fifth key relates to our recruitment strategy and training of our teaching staff and management. |

Ethical principles, respect for oneself, others and the planet are reflected through words and actions. Human qualities count as much as technical and intellectual knowledge. Ethical choices, belief in what is just when taking decisions, and the care and attention that teachers need to bring to young people are essential to fulfilling their roles. Le Rosey seeks to select and train its staff with great care and attention.
The changing role of the teacher in parallel with the integration of new teaching technologies, requires more time dedicated to staff training.
The recruitment of our directors is a major concern: this profession, so varied and with such an range of responsibilities, demands, in addition to appropriate qualifications, strength of character, charisma and assertiveness. Training staff for management posts is facilitated through our own network of Swiss schools. |
